Utilo
Privacy Policy
Last updated 1 November 2026
Utilo builds macOS utilities, including EdgeShelf. This policy covers the utilo.app website and the apps listed on it. The short version: our apps keep your data on your own Mac, and we do not collect it.
What stays on your Mac
EdgeShelf stores everything it needs locally, in your own user account, and sends none of it to us. That includes:
- Your shelves, and the items on them, in a file under your Library's Application Support folder.
- Copies EdgeShelf makes of files you add, so a card keeps working after the original is moved or deleted.
- Images and files imported from a drag, saved into that same folder.
- Your settings, stored in macOS user defaults.
Deleting the app's Application Support folder removes all of it. We have no copy, because none is ever sent.
What we do not collect
EdgeShelf contains no analytics, no telemetry, no crash reporting and no advertising. It does not create an account, and it does not phone home to report what you put on a shelf.
The app includes a diagnostics feature that records recent drag activity in memory to help work out why a drop was ignored. That trace never leaves your Mac unless you copy it yourself and choose to send it to us.
Connecting a Google or Dropbox account
EdgeShelf can optionally upload a file you pick to your own cloud storage and hand you a shareable link. This is off until you connect an account, and you can use the whole app without ever connecting one.
When you do connect one:
- Sign-in happens in your browser, on Google's or Dropbox's own page. We never see or handle your password.
- The resulting access tokens are stored in your Mac's Keychain, on your machine. They are not transmitted to us and we have no server that receives them.
- Uploads go directly from your Mac to that provider. Nothing is routed through Utilo.
- Disconnecting the account in EdgeShelf's settings revokes EdgeShelf's access and deletes the stored tokens.
What EdgeShelf accesses in your Google account
EdgeShelf requests one permission, the drive.file scope, which grants access only to files that EdgeShelf itself creates. It cannot see or open anything else in your Google Drive. With it, EdgeShelf:
- creates the files you choose to upload, inside a new folder when you upload several at once;
- shares what it created so that anyone with the link can view it, and reads back that link to copy it for you;
- reads your account's email address and name, only to show in EdgeShelf's settings which account is connected.
That email address and name stay on your Mac. The files you upload stay in your own Drive, under your control: EdgeShelf keeps no copy of them anywhere else, and deleting them in Drive removes them and their links.
Google API Services Limited Use disclosure
EdgeShelf's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Data received from Google APIs is used solely to upload the files you selected and to create the shareable link you asked for. It is not transferred to anyone else, not used for advertising, not sold, and not used to train any model. No human reads it.
Dropbox
Dropbox connections are restricted to EdgeShelf's own app folder, on the same basis. There EdgeShelf uploads the files you choose, inside a new folder when you upload several at once, creates the share link, and reads your account's email address and name to show which account is connected.
Disconnecting
You can also remove EdgeShelf's access at any time from your Google account's third-party connections or your Dropbox connected apps.
This website
utilo.app runs no advertising and no third-party analytics. Fonts are loaded from Google Fonts, which receives the request for the font file as part of serving it.
If you give us an email address to be told when something ships, we store it only to send that message, and you can ask us to delete it at any time by writing to the address below.
Children
Our apps are not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
Changes
If this policy changes, the date at the top of this page changes with it.
